Calculemus Workshop: Systems for Integrated Computation and Deduction

Edinburgh, Scotland, 24 - 26 September 1997

Following successful workshops in Rome and Dagstuhl in 1996, and at Trento in 1997, we announce a workshop in Edinburgh, Scotland, 24th-26th September 1997.

The workshop will start at 9am on Wednesday 24th September, and will finish on Friday 26th September, probably around lunchtime. The workshop dinner will be on the evening of Wednesday 24th September at a venue to be decided.

In addition to discussing our research, a major priority of the workshop will be to discuss the future direction and possibilities for funding of the Calculemus project.

A registration form can be found at the end of this document.

Venue

The workshop talks will take place in the Department of Artificial Intelligence, located in the centre of Edinburgh. Facilities provided include a Barco projector for displaying computer output on a projector screen.

The precise venue is:

Lecture room D2
Department of Artificial Intelligence
The University of Edinburgh
5 Forrest Hill
Edinburgh EH1 2QL

Getting to Edinburgh

Here is a PostScript map of Edinburgh, and here is a map of the central area (gif) with the workshop venue marked.

By air: Edinburgh Airport is 10 miles to the west of the city. A taxi from the airport to the department will cost about £ 16. Alternatively, you could get the airport bus to Waverley Bridge for about £ 3.50 and walk a half mile or take a taxi from there to the department.

By rail: The main railway station is Edinburgh Waverley. There is a frequent service from London King's Cross and the East Coast line north of Newcastle is particularly beautiful. London--Edinburgh travel time is about 4.5 hours.

By road: From the south-east take the A1, which will deposit you directly onto the east end of Princes Street, where you should turn left onto North Bridge to get to the city centre. This brings you to the west end of Princes Street. Travel to the east end, turn right onto North Bridge and follow the directions above. If you are coming by car, get in touch with me first for more details on parking and exact route to the department.

Buses within Edinburgh are frequent.

Cultural information

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, and as well as being a beautiful city and offering a wide range of cultural delights, it is located on Scotland's East coast and on the Firth of Forth, providing opportunities for exploring the countryside.

Extensive information about Edinburgh is available on the WWW from Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board at http://www.edinburgh.org/.
